State Highway roadworks programme

To keep our roads safe and serviceable, the NZTA will undertake sealing and road reconstruction on State Highways around Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne (November–March). Sealing generally involves spreading stone chip over a layer of hot sprayed bitumen, and the new seals can take some time to settle down. You can clean any spots of bitumen off with kerosene or baby oil. Reconstruction can involve the use of cement and any cement splashes should be washed off as soon as practical.
