What the snapshot shows

The snapshot contrasts our initial published programme and the current programme, showing:

  • the amount of funding allocated to approved organisations and the amount we've yet to allocate
  • the funding commitments for the next three years.

We show the total allocations for each activity class. Activity classes are:

  • New and improved infrastructure for state highways
  • Renewal of state highways
  • Maintenance and operation of state highways
  • New and improved infrastructure for local roads
  • Renewal of local roads
  • Maintenance and operation of local roads
  • Road policing
  • Public transport services
  • Public transport infrastructure
  • Demand management and community programmes
  • Walking and cycling facilities
  • Sector training and research
  • Domestic sea freight development
  • Rail and sea freight
  • Transport planning
  • Management of the funding allocation system.

The snapshot also includes the allocations for Ministry of Transport activities:

  • Regional Development
  • SuperGold Card
  • Canterbury Transport.

Emergency work

Emergency work is work undertaken to repair and restore roads following events such as earthquakes and rainstorms. We set aside an allocation each year in the NLTP for this activity. Local authorities and our own state highway operations apply for this funding when damage occurs.
