How councils get funding for activities

Updated: 25 November 2009

To obtain Government transport funding - from the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF) - councils must ensure the activities they want NLTF funding for are included in the regional land transport programme. Councils also provide funding for local transport networks and services from rates and developer contributions.

Proposing activities for the regional land transport programme

To do this, councils have to put proposals to the regional transport committee. The committee is the body that develops the regional land transport programme, and they decide on their own process. Committees generally follow the process suggested in our Planning, programming and funding manual.
