Project purpose
To provide a direct link from SH1 for traffic heading to the airport and central and western suburbs as part of SH20. As part of the southern section of the Western Ring Route, it will increase capacity to help relieve congestion and support economic growth.

- Key connection to support future growth at the Wiri and Auckland International Airport business zones, as well as an expected population increase of 40,000 people at the new suburb of Flatbush
Features
- 4.5 km long four-lane motorway with new interchanges at Cavendish Drive and Lambie Drive and motorway-to-motorway connections to SH1 and SH20
- Provision for a third lane to be added in each direction in the future (giving six lanes in total)
- Construction of thirteen bridges
- Motorway will provide a direct link from SH1 for motorists travelling to the airport
- Will provide considerable relief to local roads within the Manukau city centre area
- Includes preparatory work towards the construction of a rail link to the Manukau city centre from the main North Island rail line. NZTA's contractors, Leighton Works, are also constructing the future Manukau Railway Station for ARTA as part of Kiwirail's DART 9 project.
