SH1N Waitiki Landing to Cape Reinga seal extension stage 2

This project will seal the remaining 19km of road on SH1, between Waitiki Landing and Cape Reinga in New Zealand's far north. It will have major benefits for safety and ecology in the area.

Project purpose

To seal the last unsealed portion of SH1 from Waitiki Landing to Cape Reinga.

Once the road is sealed, the drive to Cape Reinga will be safer and more comfortable for car drivers and passengers.

Other facts

The Department of Conservation completed a $6 million upgrade to visitor facilities at the Cape in March 2009.
