Displaying transport service licence labels
Since 1 August 2009, the following vehicles have had to display transport service licence (TSL) labels:
- taxis
- shuttles
- vehicles used in vehicle recovery services (towing)
- goods service vehicles with a gross vehicle mass of 6000 kilograms or more
- large passenger service vehicles.
TSL labels replace the requirement to display TSL numbers on the outside of these vehicles. Vehicles currently displaying TSL numbers and business locations do not have to remove this information.
Note that TSL labels are not required on trailers.

Certificates of responsibility
Since 1 August 2009 operators have no longer needed to complete certificates of responsibility when vehicles used in a transport service are used by people other than the owners. However, borrowers must place their TSL labels in the borrowed vehicles.
Vehicles currently displaying TSL numbers and business locations do not have to remove this information.
Display requirements
The way that you display your TSL label on your vehicle depends on the type of vehicle you use.
Taxis, shuttles and large passenger service vehicles (buses) and vehicle recovery service vehicles (tow trucks) must display TSL labels on the inside of the windscreen, as close as practicable to the bottom of the passenger's side.
Goods service vehicles must display TSL labels as described above, or in the window behind the passenger seat.
