Why it pays to be a five-star operator

Updated: 7 May 2012

If you’re a heavy vehicle operator, it’s in your best interests to ensure that you’re a five-star operator.

The ratings will be made public and will be on our website for the first time in late 2012, following three assessments at six monthly intervals, which will be available only to operators.

This means your customers will be able to compare ratings when making choices about heavy vehicle operators. This may include the ability to tender for contracts only if your rating is of a certain standard. Other agencies and organisations may also take safety ratings into account when setting their fees, levies and premiums. Clearly a good rating can be used to gain a commercial advantage.

Under the ORS, enforcement will be better targeted so operators with a higher star rating are likely to be subject to fewer roadside inspections. This means savings in both time and money.
