Rail safety advertisements

Updated: 4 February 2010

On average, 25 collisions between trains and motor vehicles take place each year. These collisions not only affect the driver and passengers of the vehicle, but also have negative impacts on rail employees and emergency services personnel.

The rail safety campaign aims to increase community awareness of rail safety and to promote rail safety throughout New Zealand. The campaign focuses on vehicle safety around railways and is directed towards drivers who either choose not to obey the warning/signs/bells and or/arms, or those who choose to see it as a game to ‘take on’ the train. This campaign is a collaboration between the NZTA, NZ Police, Kiwi Rail, the Greater Wellington Regional Council, Veolia and the Chris Cairns Foundation.
