Since the campaign began, NZ Police have significantly increased their annual road safety effort. While targeted publicity increases awareness, the reality of police enforcement and 'getting caught' is the incentive for drivers to change their behaviour.
While the chances of being caught for driving at excessive speed, drink-driving and drug-driving are very high, police can't be everywhere all of the time. That's why responsible driver attitudes and behaviour are necessary for safer roads and a lower road toll.
Individual drivers must make personal decisions not to drive at excessive speed, not to drink then drive, not to drive under the influence of drugs and not to drive when tired. Doing these things will save lives.
